Our second and final 2018-2019 NEA-Salina Scholarship Recipient is Michele Palmgren of Salina South High School.
Michele Palmgren teaches Earth Space Science, Physical Science, and Teen Builders Program. Michele is currently studying Administration from The Teachers College at Emporia State University. Michele states "I enjoy working with at-risk students and I am hoping to get a building leadership position in which I can work more closely with students that struggle due to circumstances beyond their control." We appreciate the support of all our partners that help make these special awards possible! Salina Education Foundation has provided over $25,000 to the students of USD 305. Our first NEA-Salina Scholarship Recipient is Kerry Ingram of USD 305 and Central Kansas Cooperative in Education. Kerry Ingram is a Teacher of Students Visually Impaired in which Kerry travels across the 12 districts that make up the Central Kansas Cooperative to support students in their home community from preschool to high school. Kerry was selected by NEA-Salina Scholarship Committee to receive a $500 scholarship in partnership with Salina Education Foundation. In addition, Kerry Ingram was selected by the Kansas NEA Scholarship Foundation to receive the Sherri Yourdon Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.00 for a Kansas NEA member pursuing an advanced degree. Kerry is currently enrolled in two advanced degree programs. TSVI at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the School Leadership with Kansas State University at the USD 305 Leadership Academy. Kerry stated this about her role as a teacher: "I can help the classroom teacher with ideas and materials to help the student with visual impairments learn. It is a win for the classroom teacher, but most importantly, a win for the student!" We appreciate the support of all our partners that help make these special awards possible!
